Car Buying Strategies

Buying a car can be stressful time, especially if you don’t know what you want.  If you know what you want, it can make the process a little easier, but that isn’t always the case.  When it comes time to purchasing a new car, there are some things that you should look out for in order to make the right decision.

There is no right time: People will tell you that there is always a great time to buy.  While this could be the case sometimes, there are always ways to to haggle, no matter what time of the season it is.  Don’t wait until a particular season, thinking that you’re going to get a great deal.

Don’t buy the salesperson’s spiel: The sales guy is there to make money, not become friends with you.  He’s going to tell you everything that you want to know to make you want to buy that car.  When you’re going in to buying a car, make sure that you know what you want, and not the salesperson.

Ask about unadvertised sales: Just because you see a sale in the paper doesn’t mean that there are other deals.  When you show up at a dealer, ask them what kind of sales they have, so that you can take advantage of them.  You’ll find that some of the best dealers don’t offer the best sales prices in the paper.

Don’t pay full price: NEVER pay full price for a car.  Instead, try and get a better deal with the car you’re looking to buy.  Even if it means you have to go to a few dealerships, always ask the sales guy if he’s willing to go down in price.  99% of the time, they are more than willing to get your business, no matter what it takes.

Use the Internet: If you hate salespeople, and you don’t want to do your shopping at the lot, do it online.  There are plenty of informative websites that will answer you question about cars.  If you don’t want to get pestered by the sales team, go after hours and check out the car.  Once you find one that you think you like, ask to take it for a test spin.

Take your time: You’re not out there buying groceries, you’re out there buying a car, this is a huge purchase.  You don’t want to go out, and make a purchase after a few minutes.  Take your time, research the car, and know what you want.

When looking to buy a car, know what you want, and follow some of these tips.  If you can do this, I can assure you that you can find a car that will suit your needs for a great, low price.
