How Often Should You Get an Oil Change?

We all like to get good deals, and save as much money as we can.  Although, when it comes to our car, it seems like we always have a problem, or have to fish out more money for it.  A common thing we spend money on is getting an oil change.  Since we are always paying for these, we want to make sure we get one only when we need one.  Although, how often is that?  How long should we wait to get our next oil change?

Mileage – First of all, it is usually a good idea to get your oil changed every 3,000-4,000 miles.  This will keep your oil clean because it starts to get too dark.  If you don’t take care of your oil, you’re going to have problems with your vehicle.

Times per year – It is good to get your oil changed a few times a year.  Lets say you have a vehicle that you put hardly any miles on, yet you never change the oil.  The oil will get old, probably start to harden, and won’t be as fresh as a new oil change.  You want to make sure you’re keeping up with maintenance to avoid any future problems.

When dark – Another great way to check is just by looking at your oil.  If you don’t want to get one every 3,000 miles wait until your oil gets a little darker.  A fresh oil change should be very pale, and have little color.  You will know if you’re due for an oil change or not.  Just don’t let it turn brown, or get too dark!

Taking care of your car is a very important thing to do.  It keeps us from having to pour money into it, and will allow it to run longer.  Taking care of your oil, and getting oil changes when you need them is something you definitely need to do if you want a car that will last!
